N-Hibit™ Seed Treatment is a major new tool in the producer’s eternal struggle against root-destroying, yield-reducing nematodes. Though microscopic in size, nematodes numbering in the thousands can have a severe impact on a plant’s root structure, root mass, and ability to take up nutrients and moisture. This destruction can be profound in extent and cost with Soybean Cyst Nematode.
N-Hibit has been shown to reduce nematode egg and juvenile populations among roots by an average of 50% or more. Replicated and commercial research trials have shown this effect of Harp-N-Tek to be consistent among Soybean Cyst, Root Knot, Reniform and other nematode species, and across many crops and geographies.
The ways in which Harpin Proteins trigger nematode reductions are still being studied. The plant defense systems may emit something that repels nematodes or that interferes with egg production. Regardless, N-Hibit is not a traditional nematicide or soil fumigant that works outside the plant to create a toxic level of protection that may be limited in duration and extent. N-Hibit works from the “inside out” and in the plant’s own natural ways to combat nematodes, and this activity continues as the plant roots extend beyond the soil area protected by traditional nematicides.
Producers and consultants have been pleased with nematode reductions and other results produced by N-Hibit, which include increased plant vigor, health, and yield.
N-Hibit is available in two formulations. N-Hibit CST is a Commercial Seed Treatment applied by the seed or agrichemical dealer. N-Hibit HB is for in-field application at the planter’s hopper boxes.
